The USDA's Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory, opened its new research facility during a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony at the U.S. National Poultry Research Center. The new research facility will increase the Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory staff's capabilities to respond to highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks as they provide research information for eradication and control, as well as data for control of Newcastle disease, reoviruses, infectious bursal disease, Marek's disease, and other exotic and emerging viruses of poultry and other birds.

18 U.S. labs join forces to battle infectious diseases: Infectious-disease experts from 18 U.S. federal agencies and academic institutions met here last week to discuss working together to combat the viruses, bacteria and other emerging pathogens that threaten the nation’s agricultural economy, food supply, wildlife and public health.

The senior scientist at the USDA's Agricultural Research Service Foreign Animal Disease Research Unit at Plum Island Animal Disease Center is among 12 outstanding public servants to be honored at the 73^rd annual Arthur S. Flemming Awards. Douglas Gladue has been recognized for performing outstanding service in the field of basic science.

Three researchers from Kansas State University have received the BIAL Award in Biomedicine for a publication focused on mRNA technology, which is now used in the two vaccines approved by the Food and Drug Administration to prevent COVID-19.
